299 <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Oast and seconded by Mr. EiIiott, the following resolution was adopted, <br />and by the following vote: <br /> "A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE STATE HIGI-~AY DEPARTMENT TO ACQUIRE THE NECESSARY <br /> RIGH%-OF-WAY FOR THE PROPOSED NEW HODGES FERRY BRIDGE; COMMIT THE CITY TO PAY <br /> CERTAIN COSTS THEREOF. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, <br />requested the <br />right-of-way <br /> <br />the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation has <br />City for its concurrence in the commencement for acquisition of necessary <br />for the approaches of the proposed new Hodges Ferry Bridge; and <br /> such concurrence will commit the City to pay its share of the right-of-way <br /> termination of construction of Portsmouth <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, <br />costs from the City limits of Portsmouth to the <br />Boulevard and its share of the construction cests of such bridge. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by tile Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />that this Council requests the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Highways and Trans <br />tion to acquire the necessary right-of-way for the approaches of the proposed new Hodges <br />Ferry Bridge. <br /> IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City commits to pay its share of the right-of-way <br /> construction of Portsmouth <br /> Bridge." <br /> <br /> BE <br />costs from the City limits of Portsmouth to the termination of <br />Boulevard and its share of the costs of said new Hodges Ferry <br /> <br /> Ayes: Early, Elliott, Holley, Oast, Davis <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> 76-58 "Consideration of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to advertise and <br />receive bids for City-owned property at 70S-?07 High Street. <br /> This vacant lot is not needed by any City department. ~ccordingly, it may be declared <br />surplus property. The City has received inquiries for the possibility of leasing and/or <br />purchasing this property. This resolution will authorize the City Manager to advertise and <br />receive bids for the lease and/or purchase thereof. The City Manager recommends adoption." <br /> On m~tion of Mr. Elliott and seconded by Mr. Early, the following resolutian was ado <br />and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ADVERTISE AND RECEIVE BIDS <br /> FOR CERTAIN CITY OWNED PROPERTY AT ?O5 70? HIGH STREET. <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth presently ownes a parcel of property located at ?OS - <br /> ?07 High Street, more particularly describe~ as follows: <br /> <br /> Beginning at a point on the North side 6f King Street, said point <br /> ~eing 81.98 feet West of the Northwestern intersection of King Street <br /> and Green Street; thence in a Northerly direction perpendicular to High <br /> Street 22S.79 feet to a point on the Southern side of High Street, said <br /> point being 80.08 feet West of the Southwestern intersection of iiigh <br /> Street and Green Street; thence in an Easterly direction along the <br /> South side of High Street 40.02 feet to a point; thence in a Southerly <br /> direction and perpendicular to High Street 22S.82 feet, more or less, to <br /> King Street; thence in a Westerly direction along the North side of <br /> King Street 40.02 feet to the point of beginning. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the said land is no longer needed by the City of Portsmouth and it is, therefo <br /> declared to be surplus property, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City has received inquiries as to the possibility of leasing or purchasing <br /> this property. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of portsmouth, Virginia, <br /> that the City Manager be, and he hereby is, authorized to advertise and receive bids <br /> for the lease and/or purchase of the hereinabove described property on such terms and subjec <br /> to such minimum bid restrictions as he may deem proper." <br /> <br /> Ayes: Early, Elliott, Holley, Oast, Davis <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> 76-59 "Consideration of a resolution of appreciation to Senator Willard Moody for <br />his efforts in having the approved Third Crossing of the Elizabeth Ri~er included as part <br />of the Interstate Highway System." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Oast and seconded by Mr. Early, the following resolution was adopted, <br />and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION TO STATE SENATOR WILLARD J. MOODY FOR HIS <br /> EFFORTS FOR GAINING APPROVAL OF TI-~ THIRD CROSSING OP THE ELIZABETH RIVER <br /> AS PART OF THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, State Senator Willard J. Moody devoted much time and effort to have approved <br />third crossing of the Elizabeth River without continuation of tolls; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, State Senator Moody headed a Commission to study such matter; and <br /> <br /> <br />
