It is not our intent to raise objections withouz giving serious thought to the futur, <br /> of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum. The State of Virginia has appropriated <br /> $120 000 in four differentta~ ..... =--, <br /> ' ' , ~vF~uc~ons for the expansion of the museam on its <br /> present site. We have read every article in the newspaper pertaining to the future <br /> of the museum and have been present when counter-pToposals have been made. <br /> <br /> Therefore, we urge that the members of the Portsmouth City Council refrain from taking <br /> any action on the consolidation o~ removal of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum from its <br /> present site, until such time as the waterfront development plan is finalized and that a site <br /> be reserved for this museum along the shores of the.Elizabeth River, where visitors may withes <br /> the breath taking sight of the mighty ships in the U.S. Navy passing by en~oute to our his- <br /> torical Norfolk Naval Shipyard, whose history it is our duty to preserve for future generati <br /> <br /> 76-188 - Mrs. Shirley Winters, 32 Davis Street, representing Spruce Up Virginia Committe~ <br /> spoke regarding funds for the beautification of our city. <br /> <br /> 'Mr. Edward F. P0ol, 131 Alton Parkway, President Federation of Civic Clubs spoke in <br /> regards to beautification p~ogram. ' , <br /> <br /> 76-189 - Motion of Mr. Barnes and secnnded by Mr. Elliott, to concur in the recomme~da- <br /> tion of the City Manager, that bid of Carter-Bell be withdrawn for Contract W-6 and the contr <br /> to be awarded to V&c~ Construction Corporation, being second low-bidder in the amount of <br /> $350,804.50, was adopted by unanimous vote.
