structures which should be demolished. Sixteen of these structures are located
within Southside. Our effort will be to have the owner demolish the structure.
~thin the funds available, the City will demolish structures for which owner
compliance is not possible.

We have been concerned with crime in Southside for a number of years, and are working
closely with Navy Yard police. We have in-creased patrols in the area and are intensifying
our efforts during those periods in which most robberies are occurring. Personnel arriving
on ships are cautioned not to walk through the area alone. A significant and continued
reduction in crime will require involvement of both police units, citizens who live in
the areas, and other community agencies. Hopefully, the commitment and involvement of
Community Action, Inc. will greatly assist us in our efforts to reduce the crime problem."
