<br />At a regular meeting of the City Council, held on April 12, 1977, there were present:

<br />
<br /> Rev. John N. Ashenfelder, Pastor, Cradock Presbyterian Church, opened the meeting with
<br />prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
<br />
<br /> Vice Mayor Wentz presided in the absence of Mayor Davis, and welcomed all visitors
<br />in attendance.
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Oast and seconded by Mr. Holley, minutes

<br />adopted by unanimous vote.

<br />77-109 - The following resolution honoring the.late George R. Walker, was presented:
<br />
<br /> "WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth has suffered a great loss in the death of George
<br />R. Walker on March 14, 1977; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, in his public life he served as a City Councilman for the City of Portsmouth
<br />between September 1958 and June 1962; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, during his term as City Councilman that he attempted at all times to represent
<br />the citizens of Portsmouth in an exemplary manner.
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of Portsmouth, Virginia
<br />that the sympathy of this body be and is hereby extended to his widow and family.
<br />
<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be spread upon the minutes of this Council
<br />and that a copy thereof be forwarded by the City Clerk to Mrs. Edna L. Walker, widow
<br />of the late Mr. Walker."

<br /> 77-88(a) The following ordinance approved on first reading at the regular meeting of
<br />March 22, 1977, was taken up and read:

<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO Ag~RODRIATE $553,810.95 FROM THE GENERAL REVENUE SHARING
<br />TRUST FUND FOR MULTI-PORPOSE EQUIPMENT, OFF-SITE DRAINAGE AND TENNIS COURTS."
<br />
<br /> On motion of Mr. Early and seconded by Mr. Elliott, the ordinance was adopted, and by
<br />the following vote:

<br /> 77-89 - The following ordinance approved on first reading at the regular meeting of
<br />March 22, 1977, was taken up and read:

<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $271,966 FROM TH£ ANTI-RECESSIONARY FISCAL
<br />ASSISTANCE FUND FOR THE EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE CONTRACT FOR THE CITY
<br />OF PORTSMOUTH."

<br />FOR MULTI-PURPOSE EQUIPMENT." J
