375 <br /> <br />February 28, 1978 <br /> <br /> We strongly protest '~he location of these stores in our neighborhood and the frequent <br /> truck traffic necessary for their operation. These trucks create a high degree of distuEbanc, <br /> in the noises they generate. We deem these stores a generl nuisance and request the City to <br /> take the appropriate action to enforce Colonial Stores, Inc., (parent company of Big Star) to <br /> erect a sound absorbing wall, not less than fifteen (15) feet high along their property, at <br />. the above addresses, and extending beyond the last residence affected by these disturbances <br /> Our specific charges are: ~ ' <br /> <br /> 1. Disturbing the peace. <br /> 2. Truck drivers sounding air horns in £rontof store and /'or while proceeding <br /> down the service road to rear of store. <br /> 3. Permitting mini-bike riders to utilize vacant field behind store. <br /> 4. Truck drivers intermittently revving engines and producing staccato. <br /> sounds as they back up and pull away from the loading platforms. <br /> 5. Store personnel pushing container units (dollies) from loading platforms <br /> and allowing them to free fall to ramp below, a distance of approximately <br /> four (4) feet. <br /> 6. Engines, motors and refrigeration units running entire time while unloading. <br /> 7. Exhaust fumes from trucks blowing in direction of homes. <br /> 8. Unsightly refuse at rear of store. <br /> 9. Trucks from Princess Anne Dispos-All Corporation, emptying dempster- <br /> dumpsters prior to 6:00 a.m. <br />10. Opening and 8losing of car doors in open areas where thare is no protection. <br />11. Denying the residents their constitutional rights to live in peace and <br /> harmony within the confines of their homes and yards. <br />12. Denying us life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. <br />13. Devaluation of property. <br /> <br />Signed by Gilbert W. Ronco and 16 additional signatures." <br /> <br />The City Attorney to look into matter and contact Mr. Ronco. <br /> <br /> 78-81 - Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Elli3tt to go into the election of <br />members to Boards/Commissions, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />Mr. Hollay nominated the following: <br /> <br />Board of Elsctrical Examiners <br /> <br />John W. Flora to be reappointed for a term of four years, expiring March 1, 198~. <br /> <br />Emergency Medical Services Advisory Commission <br /> <br /> Mrs. Ella Poss to be appointed for an unexpired term, ending July 31, 1979, replacing <br />Ms. Pansy Reed. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. <br />members were elected to said Board/Commission <br />vote. <br /> <br />Elliott, to close nominations, and tbs above <br />as designated, and was adopted by unanimous <br /> <br /> 78-82 Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Holley that that the City Manager <br />report on the zoning petit-ions of Construction Associates, [nc. and F. Gordon Griffin as <br />soon as possible and the petitioners be notified when to be presented was adopted by <br />unanimous vote. ' <br /> <br />On motion meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br /> <br />
