JuN ORDtN/hNCE IMF(tSING JuND COLLECTING TAXES ON REAL ESTATE~ TANGIBLE <br />PERSONAL PROPERTY AND ~v~IlNERY WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF <br />PROTSMOUTH~ VIRG!NIA~ FOR THE PURP(~E OF RAISING REVENUE FOR THE <br />SUPPORT OF THE GOVE.~hN~,~NT AND THE PUBLIC FREE SCHOOLS AND TO PAY <br />INTEREST ~JqD SINKING FUND ON TIlE PUBLIC DEBT FOR THE YEAR BEGINNING <br />J~NUARY 1~ 1964. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth~ <br />Virginia~ that for the year beginning January l~ I964, and for each <br />year thereafter until annulled by ordinance, the following tax shall <br />be placed on real estate: tangible personal property and machinery <br />within the limits of the City of Portsmouth, for the purpose of <br />raising revenue for the support of the government and the public <br />free schools and to pay interest and sinking fund on the public debt. <br /> <br /> (1] The tax on real estate for the City of Portsmouth~ <br />Virginia~ shall be Three ($3~00) Dollars on each one hundred dollars <br />assessed valuation thereof. <br /> <br />[2) Classification of Tangible Personal Property: <br /> <br /> (A) The following shall be classified as Tangible <br />Personal Property and taxed at the rate of Two Dollars and Seventy- <br />five Cents ($2~75) on each one hundred dollars assessed valuation <br />thereof: <br /> <br /> (1) The aggregate number of horses, mules and other <br />kindred animals and the value thereof. <br /> <br />(2) The number of cattle and the value thereof. <br /> <br />(3) The n~mber'of sheep and goats and the value thereof~ <br /> <br />The nm~ber of hogs and the value thereof, <br /> <br /> (S? The aggregate number and value of all automobi!es~ <br />motor trucks, motorcycles mud ali other motor vehicles~ except mny <br />veaicle without motive power used or dasigned to be used as a mobile <br />home or office or for other means of habitation by any person. <br /> <br /> (6) The aggregate value of all animal dra~ vehicles <br />and bicyctes~ <br /> <br /> (7) The aggregate value of all farming implements and <br />tools of m~chgnics. <br /> <br /> <br />
