ORDINANCE NO. 2024-84 <br />AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING SAFER COMMUNITIES PROGRAM GRANT <br />FUNDING IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,935,300 FROM THE VIRGINIA <br />DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES AND APPROPRIATING <br />SAID AMOUNT IN THE FY 2025 GRANTS FUND BUDGET FOR USE BY THE <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT TO ADDRESS THE ROOT CAUSES AND <br />CONDITIONS OF COMMUNITY VIOLENCE. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br />1. That it hereby accepts Safer Communities Program Grant funding in the <br />amount of $2,935,300 from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services and <br />appropriates said amount in the FY 2025 Grants Fund Budget <br />2. That the funds shall be used by the Police Department for authorized uses <br />under the Safer Communities Program, specifically the implementation of holistic, <br />community-based strategies that address the root causes and conditions of community <br />violence and the funding of a fulltime position dedicated to planning, implementation, <br />and coordination of community violence reduction strategies. <br />3. That no local match is required as a condition of the funding. <br />4. That estimated revenues and expenditures in the FY 2025 Grants Fund <br />Budget are increased by $2,935,300. <br />5. That this ordinance shall take effect on the date of its adoption. <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held <br />on September 10, 2024. <br />Teste: <br />City Clerk <br />
