R -20 -19 <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CONVEYANCE OF 2701, 2709 AND 2715 <br />TURNPIKE ROAD TO THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY. <br />WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Transportation performed a project to widen <br />Turnpike Road in Portsmouth; and <br />WHEREAS,VDOT acquired property necessary for the road widening project and upon <br />completion of the project it conveyed all remnant parcels of the property that were not necessary <br />for the project to the City of Portsmouth; and <br />WHEREAS, the remnant parcels include 2701 Turnpike Road (Tax Parcel 0189- 0240), <br />2709 Turnpike Road (0189- 0270), and 2715 Turnpike Road (0189 -0290) (the "Property "), and <br />WHEREAS, the Economic Development Department has received inquiries about <br />conveyance of different portions of the Property for ( l) development of single family housing <br />and (2) use for parking; and <br />WHEREAS, the conveyance and development of the Property would benefit the City <br />and its residents financially by returning the Property, or a portion thereof, to the tax rolls and <br />saving the City costs for mowing and other maintenance; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, that it approves and authorizes the conveyance of the Property and/or an interest therein <br />to the Economic Development Authority; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is authorized to execute and <br />deliver one or more Deeds conveying the Property to the Economic Development Authority and <br />to take such further actions as she deems necessary or appropriate in furtherance of the purpose <br />of this Resolution. <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at an electronic meeting <br />held on July 16, 2020. <br />Teste: <br />City Clerk <br />
