~~T 9~ <br />AN ORDINANCE TO CHANGE THE NAME OF SEAN SYKES AVENUE TO SHAWN <br />SYKES AVENUE. <br />WHEREAS, Shawn D. Sykes grew up in Portsmouth and gave his life serving his <br />country in Iraq; and <br />WHEREAS, a street was named in the Westbury neighborhood of Portsmouth to honor <br />Shawn D. Sykes and his sacrifice; and <br />WHEREAS, due to a scrivener's error the name of the street was misspelled as Sean <br />Sykes Avenue; and <br />WHEREAS, an application has been filed by the Portsmouth Redevelopment and <br />Housing Authority to correct the scrivener's error by formally changing the name of the street; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia that the street now known as Sean Sykes Avenue be renamed and known as Shawn <br />Sykes Avenue. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this ordinance shall take effect on the date of its <br />adoption. <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held June <br />10, 2014. <br />Teste: <br />City Clerk <br />
