<br />R-11-43 <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A MEMORANDUM OF <br />UNDERSTANDING WITH THE PORTSMOUTH MUSEUMS FOUNDATION ACCEPTING THE <br />DONATION OF FUNDS TO IMPROVE THE PORTSMOUTH ART AND CULTURAL CENTER <br />ANNEX AND APPROVING ITS USE BY THE ELIZABETH RIVER ARTISTS CLUB. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Estate of Dorothy G. Scott ("Scott Estate") a former member of the Elizabeth <br /> <br />River Artists Club ("ERAC") wishes to donate the sum of $90,000 to the Portsmouth Museums <br /> <br />Foundation ("Foundation"); and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Scott Estate desires that an amount not to exceed $12,000 be used by the <br /> <br />Foundation to renovate a room in the Portsmouth Art and Cultural Center as a place for the ERAC <br /> <br />members to paint and to hold their monthly meetings; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Portsmouth Museums have identified a room in the Center Annex that is <br /> <br />available for such uses; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Foundation and the Portsmouth Museums deem it advisable to enter into a <br /> <br />Memorandum of Understanding concerning the use of the funds and the renovated room in the Annex. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia <br /> <br />that it hereby expresses its sincere appreciation to the Estate of Dorothy of G. Scott for its generous gift to <br /> <br />the Portsmouth Museums Foundation and for designating a portion of the gift to improving the art facility <br /> <br />at the Portsmouth Art and Cultural Center. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager or his designee is authorized to enter into <br /> <br />a Memorandum of Understanding with the Portsmouth Museums Foundation outlining the responsibilities <br /> <br />of each party with respect to the funds and the use of the renovated room in the Center Annex by the <br /> <br />Elizabeth River Artists Club. <br /> <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held on December 13, <br /> <br />2011. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br />
