<br /> <br />2010....12 <br />M_~~ <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (2006) BY AMENDING SECTION 2-111 THEREOF <br />PERT AINING TO HOLIDAYS. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br />1. That Section 2-111 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia 92006) <br />be amended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 2-111. Holidays. <br /> <br />(a) The following days shall be observed as holidays by the city on the same <br />days of the year as observed by the Commonwealth: <br />(1) New Year's Day; <br />(2) Lee-Jackson Day; <br />(3) Martin Luther King, Jr. Day; <br />(4) George Washington Day; <br />(5) Memorial Day; <br />(6) Independence Day; <br />(7) Labor Day; <br />(8) Columbus Day; <br />(9) Veteran's Day; <br />(10) Thanksgiving Day; <br />(11) The day following Thanksgiving Day; <br />(12) Christmas Day; and <br />(13) Any other day or part thereof designated as a holiday by the Governor of <br />the Commonwealth of Virginia, the President of the United States, the city manager, or <br />the city council. <br /> <br />(b) In addition to the above holidays, each full-time City employee may take a <br />holiday on his or her birthday or within 30 days thereafter. <br /> <br />(c) Whenever a holiday shall fall on a Saturday, it shall be observed on the <br />preceding Friday. Whenever a holiday shall fall on a Sunday, it shall be observed on the <br />following Monday. <br /> <br />2. That this ordinance shall be deemed to have taken effect on January 1, <br /> <br />2010. <br /> <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held <br />on February 23,2010. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br />
