<br />ORDlANCE..201.9-83, <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 20 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (2006), BY AMENDING SECTION 20-31 <br />PERTAINING TO LICENSE TAXATION ON TELEPHONE COMPANIES <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br />1. That Section 20-31 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia (2006) <br />be amended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 20-31. Telephone service. <br /> <br />Each person or telephone company providing telephone service shall pay an <br />annual license tax, equal to one-half of one percent of the gross receipts accruing from <br />sales to the ultimate consumer in the city. However, charges for long distance telephone <br />calls shall not be included in gross receipts for purposes of license taxation. <br /> <br />2. That this ordinance shall take effect on January 1, 2011 and shall be <br />applicable to all telephone license tax bills rendered on or after January 1,2011. <br /> <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held <br />on October 12,2010. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br />
