<br />R-10-20 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A <br />MARINE SAFETY AND SECURITY ZONES MEMORANDUM OF <br />AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH AND THE U.S. <br />COAST GUARD. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, for over three years, the Portsmouth Police Department as well as <br />other law enforcement agencies throughout the Hampton Roads Port region has entered <br />into Maritime Safety and Security Zone Law Enforcement Memoranda of Agreement <br />arrangements with the U,S, Coast Guard to authorize inter-jurisdictional assistance, <br />cooperation and enforcement action specifically in the port domain. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City and the Coast Guard propose to enter into a new marine <br />safety and security zones memorandum of agreement that will renew the terms of <br />previous agreements that have now expired. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia that the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a <br />Memorandum of Agreement, in a form substantially similar to Exhibit 1 attached hereto, <br />with the United States Coast Guard to authorize inter-jurisdictional assistance, <br />cooperation, and enforcement action in the ports areas. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is further authorized to <br />enter into similar memoranda for the same purpose with the Coast Guard in the future <br />without the necessity of further City Council approval ifhe deems said memoranda to be <br />in the best interest of the City of Portsmouth, <br /> <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held <br />on June 8, 2010. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br />
