<br /> <br />MUTUAL AID FIREFIGHTING <br />AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA AND THE U.S. COAST GUARD BASE SUPPORT UNIT <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA <br /> <br />This Agreement made and entered into this _th day of 2010, by and <br />between the city of Portsmouth, Virginia, Portsmouth Department of Fire, Rescue and <br />Emergency Services and the United States Coast Guard Base Support Unit Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, each duly and lawfully represented by the signatories executing this instrument. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth maintains equipment and personnel for the <br />suppression of fires and emergency medical response, and is authorized to enter into this <br />agreement pursuant to Virginia Code S 27-2.1; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the signatory U.S. Coast Guard commands in Portsmouth are authorized to <br />enter into this agreement in accordance with 14 U.S.C. S 141; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the signatory U.S. Coast Guard commands in Portsmouth desire enhanced <br />fire protection and emergency medical services; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth has a need for continued suitable berthing space for <br />its fireboat; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the parties hereto desire to enhance the fire protection and emergency <br />medical response available within the U.S. Coast Guard Base Support Unit Portsmouth, <br />and the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, in the event of large fires or major disasters; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the lands or districts of the parties hereto are adjacent or contiguous so that <br />assistance in a fire emergency is deemed feasible; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, itjs permissible for the U.S. Coast Guard and the City of Portsmouth to <br />make such an agreement; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is mutually deemed sound, desirable, practicable, and beneficial for the <br />parties to this Agreement to render assistance to one another in accordance with these <br />terms. <br /> <br />THEREFORE BE IT AGREED THAT: <br /> <br />(1 ) The City of Portsmouth shall provide fire protection and emergency <br />medical services for the U.S. Coast Guard Base Support Unit Portsmouth <br />(first call) and the U.S. Coast Guard Base Support Unit Portsmouth shall <br />provide a berthing space suitable for the City of Portsmouth' fireboat in <br />accordance with License No. HSCGZ75130-09-RP-004L. <br /> <br />1 <br />
