RU. -. ~ <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 35 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (2006) BY AMENDING SECTION 35-562 THEREOF <br />PERTAINING TO FILING APPLICATIONS FOR TAX EXEMPTIONS. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br />1. That, pursuant to the authority set forth in Section 58.1-3605 of the Code of <br />Virginia, the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia (2006) be, and hereby is, amended by <br />amending section 35-562 to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 35-562. Triennial application for exempt property. <br /> <br />Any entity, except the commonwealth, any political subdivision of the commonwealth, or <br />the United States, which owns property exempt under Code of Virginia, S 58.1-3606 et seq., after <br />having received 60 days' written notice from the City Assessor, must trienially file an <br />application with the City Assessor as a requirement for retention of the exempt status of the <br />property. Such application shall show the ownership and usage of such property and shall be <br />filed within the next 60 days preceding the tax year for which such exemption or the retention <br />thereof is sought. <br /> <br />2. That this ordinance shall take effect on tlie date of its adoption, so that any <br />qualifying entity that has filed such an application prior to adoption of this ordinance shall have <br />three years [rom the year of filing to file a renewal application. <br /> <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held on <br />May 27,2008. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br />
