<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />R-05-20 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION CONCERNING SALARY EQUITY AND A CAREER <br />COMPENSATION PLAN FOR CITY EMPLOYEES. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, City employees are critical to the excellence of local government <br />performance; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, City employees regularly work long hours under difficult circumstances in <br />many departments; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is important and necessary that City employees receive fair, equitable and <br />competitive compensation; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, preliminary study indicates that employee turnover and retention are special <br />concerns within employee ranks and within the community: <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br />I. That the City Council hereby directs the City Manager to conduct a comprehensive <br />compensation study that addresses salary equity and career compensation; <br /> <br />2. That the City Manager shall appoint an Advisory Employee Compensation Task <br />Force, to consist of not less than eleven employees; <br /> <br />3. That City Council shall appoint two Council Members as liaisons to work with the <br />City Manager and the Task Force; <br /> <br />4. That the City Manager shall provide the Task Force with such research, resources, and <br />consultants as may be reasonably needed for the Task Force to perform its duties; and <br /> <br />5.
