<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />R-05-19 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION ADOPTING A NEW COMPREHENSIVE PLAN FOR THE <br />CITY OF PORTSMOUTH. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 15.2-2223 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, <br />requires that each locality have a comprehensive plan to guide and accomplish the <br />coordinated, adjusted and harmonious development of city land based on present and <br />probable future needs and resources, so as best to promote the health, safety, morals, <br />order, convenience, prosperity and general welfare of the locality's citizens; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City's Planning Commission, after a two-year process that <br />included extensive citizen involvement, has developed and recommended for City <br />Council's consideration and adoption the Destination 2025 Comprehensive Plan; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council has made available to the public and has conducted <br />public hearings on the recommended Plan; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the recommended Plan has been amended as a result of that <br />additional citizen and city council input; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the amended Plan meets the <br />requirements of the Code of Virginia and will serve as a valuable tool and guide for the <br />future development of the City. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia that it hereby adopts the Destination 2025 Comprehensive Plan as <br />recommended by the City's Planning Commission and as amended by the City Council. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council extends its gratitude to the <br />Plarming Commission, the Citizens 2025 Committee that guided the Plan's development, <br />and all other citizens and city staff involved in the Plan's creation for their extensive time <br />and efforts contributed to the production of this significant and valuable document. <br /> <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held <br />on April 26, 2005. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br />
