(3) A strip of land at least ten feet in width and a solid brick, stone or <br /> architectural block wall at least 30 inches in height. At least one (1) shrub <br /> or vine shall be planted abutting the wall within each ten-foot-long <br /> section. A row or rows of shrubs at least 24 inches high at time of planting <br /> which will result in an opaque screen within one (1) year of planting may <br /> be substituted for the solid wall; or <br /> (4) A strip of land meeting the standards of landscaping group 5. <br /> <br />Sec. 40-73. Landscaping groups. <br /> <br /> Where Iandscaping according to the specifications of a landscaping group is <br />required by this chapter or is included as a condition of any permit or approval granted- <br />under this chapter, the design and planting of any landscaping shall meet the standards of <br />the designated landscaping group. The city's landscaping, planting and protection manual <br />includes suggested planting patterns and species that will achieve the standards of these <br />landscaping groups. <br /> <br /> (c) Landscaping group 3 (broken screen). A buffer strip of land at least ten <br /> feet in width containing a combination of deciduous and coniferous trees <br /> and shrubs designed to provide some buffeting. Trees must he at least one <br /> and one-half (1 1/2) inches in caliper, measured at a point located six (6) <br /> inches above existing grade, at the time of planting. At least one (1) such <br /> tree shall be planted in each 20-foot-long section of the buffer strip. <br /> Shrubs shall be at least 24 inches in height at time of planting. At least one <br /> (1) such shrub shall be planted in each six-foot-long section of the buffer <br /> Strip. <br /> <br /> Landscaping group 5 (decorative planting strip). Decorative area of <br /> planting at least ten feet in width and containing a combination of <br /> decorative trees, shrubs and perennial flowers, plants and grasses. At least <br /> 50 percent of the planting area shall be designed to be covered by shrubs. <br /> Shrubs shall be at least 24 inches high at time of planting. <br /> <br /> 2. That Table 40-44-4 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia (1988) <br /> be amended to read as follows: <br /> <br /> <br />
