AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 38 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988), BY AMENDING SECTION 38-83 THEREOF <br />PERTAINING TO RATES FOR WATER. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City ofPortsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That an emergency exists because of the decreasing usable capacity of <br />Portsmouth's water reservoirs resulting from severe and continuing drought conditions. <br /> <br /> 2. That Section 38-83 of the Code of the City of portsmouth, Virginia, be <br />amended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 38-83. Meter rates for water supplied. <br /> <br /> (a) For all water that passes through meters, customers within the corporate <br />limits of the city shall pay $2.80 per one thousand (1,000) gallons or $2.0947 per one <br />hundred (100) cubic feet of water supplied for the first six hundred (600) cubic feet of <br />water supplied during a billing period. For any amom,.t of water supplied during a billing <br />period in excess of 600 cubic feet. customers within the corporate limits of the city shall <br />pay $3.50 per one thousand (I000) gallons or $2.6184 per one hundred (100) cubic feet. <br /> <br /> (b) For all water that passes through meters, customers of the City of <br />Chesapeake who are served by Portsmouth and whose rates are not set by contract shall <br />pay $4.20 per one thousand (1,000) gallons or $3.1420 per one hundred cubic (100) feet <br />of water supplied for the first six hundred (600) cubic feet of water supplied during a <br />billing period. For any amount of water supplied dining a billing period in excess of 600 <br />cubic feet, such customers shall pay $5.25 per one thousand (1000) gallons or $3.928 per <br />one hundred (100) cubic feet. <br /> <br /> (c) For all water, which passes through meters to the City of Chesapeake <br />pursuant to contract, the City of Chesapeake shall pay: <br /> <br />(1) For the first 2.59 million gallons of water per day of water supplied <br />during a billing period. $4.20 per one thousand (1,000) gallons or $3.142 <br />per one hundred cubic (100) feet of water supplied. <br /> <br />(2) For water supplied during a billing period in excess of 2.59 million <br />gallons but below three million gallons of water per day, $5.25 per one <br />thousand (1,000) gallons or $3.928 per one hundred (100) cubic feet of <br />water supplied. <br /> <br />(3) For the amount of water supplied during a billing period in excess <br />of three million gallons per day, $4.20 per one thousand (1000) gallons or <br />$3.142 per one hundred [100) cubic feet of water supplied. <br /> <br /> <br />
