that <br /> <br />AN ORDI%~ANCE PROVIDING FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF E~PLOY- <br />~ AN~D A COk~PEN~ATION PLA~ FOR w~PLOYEES OF TH]~ CIT~. <br /> <br />Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth~ Virginia, <br /> <br /> Section 1. EmplQyees Classified, <br /> <br /> O~ and after July 1, 1959, all employees of the City of Portsmouth <br />shall be classified according to the kind and type of work performed by <br /> <br />them, and their compensation shall be fixed according to such classification. <br /> Section 2. Rates of Compensation. <br /> <br /> The basic salary or compensation of e~ch employee ~ntil otherwise <br />changed by ordinance shall be according to the Basic Pay Schedule, hereinafter <br /> <br />referred to as the schedule, and which is a part of this ordinance. <br /> Section 3. Application to Present ~m. ployeeso <br /> <br /> All employees of the City shall receive compensation according to <br />their classification as se~ forth in the schedule° Any employee of the City <br />who is et the effective date of this ordinance receiving less than the amoun~ <br />provided for in the schedule for hie range of smploymen~ shall, on and after <br />July !, 1959, receive the amount set forth in the schedule. Any employee who <br />is receiving more on the effective date of this ordinance than the amount <br />he would be emtitled to receive udlder the schedule, shall centime at the <br />same salary until his years of service shall entitle him to an increase in <br />compensation. <br /> <br /> Section 4, ~ew Employees, t~omotions and Pay Increases. <br /> <br /> The several classifications of employment shall be divided into <br /> <br />pay ranges as set forth in the schedule° Unless otherwise provided herein, <br />an employee shall receive the compensation set forth in the schedule under <br />steps '~", "B"~ "C" and "D" d~ring the first, ss¢ond~ third and fonrth years~ <br />respectivety~ of hie employment in that range.
