AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 6-3 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGLNIA, 1951, SOAS TO PERMIT BURIALS IN OLIVE <br />BRANCH CEMETERY AND LINCOLN MEMORIAL PARK, THEY BEING EXISTING <br />CEN[ETERIES WITHIN TERRITORY ANNEXED TO THE CITY. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmoutb~ Virginia, that <br />Section 6-3 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1951, be amend- <br />ed and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 6-3~ Prohibiting burials, except in cemeteries; establishment <br /> and enlargement of cemeteries~ <br /> <br /> No person shall bury or cause to be buried, without permission of the <br />city health officer, the remains of any person in any private lot, or at any <br />place within the city except in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Oak Grove Cemetery, <br />Olive Branch Cemetery, Lincoln Memorial Park~ Saint Paul Cemetery, Evergreen <br />Memorial Park, Mount Calvary Cemetery and adjoining burial ground~ Mount <br />Olive Cemetery~ and the cemeteries on Paradise Creek belonging to the congre- <br />gations of Gomley Chesed Synagogue and Chevra Thilim Synagogue° No cemetery <br />shall hereafter be established or enlarged in the city° <br /> <br /> This ordina-nce being necessary for the preservation of the public health, <br />morals, and safety, an emergency is declared To exist and it shall take effect <br />from its passage. <br /> <br /> Adopted at a meeting of the Council o£ the City of Portsmouth~ Virginia, <br />at a meeting held on November 8, 1960~ <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
