AN ORDINANCE TO A~END SECTION 2-54 AND TO REPEAL SECTIONS <br />2-55 THROUGH 2-59 OF I~HE CODE OF THE CITY OF P~RTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1951, SO AS TO TRANSFER THE FDq~CTIONS AND DUTIES <br />OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC H~a_LTH TO THE STATE HEALTH <br />DEPARTMENT EFFECTIVE JLrLY 1, 1960o <br /> <br />Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> Section 1: That Section 2-54 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, 1951, be amended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 2-540 <br /> <br />Transfer of Department of Public Health to <br />State Health Department; Director of Public <br />Health Generally° <br /> <br /> Effective July 1, 1960, and until otherwise provided by Council~ the <br />Department of Public Health shall be transferred to the State Health Department <br />and shall be operated by the State Health Department° The Director of Public <br />Health shall be appointed with the joint concurrence of the City Manager and <br />the State Health Department. The Director of Public Health so appointed shall <br />be the health officer of the City and shall continue to perform all the duties <br />and functions of said offices as if such transfer had not been made. <br /> <br /> Section 2: That Sections 2-55 through 2-59 of the Code of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1951, be and the same hereby are repealed~ <br /> <br /> This ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public <br />health, morale and safety, an emergency is declared to exist and it shall be in <br />force and effective from and after July 1, 1960. <br /> Adopted by the Council on ?/~,u~ / ~/ /~. <br /> <br /> True copy <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
