AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 24-55 OF THE CODE OF TEE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1951, AS AMENDED, TO PRO- VIDE FOR THE INSTALLATI(~N AND MAINTENANCE OF WATER SER- VICE CfE~NECTIONS MADE TO WATER MAINS OF TKE CITY OF PORTSMOUTii AFTER JULY 1, 1962. Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: Section 1. That Section 24-55 of the Code of the City of Ports- mouth, Virginia, 1951, as amended, be amended and reordained to read as follows: Section 24-55. Water Service Connections and Maintenance. (a) New Water Service Connections. %Fnenever application is made pursuan~ to Section 24-33 of this chapter for the installation of a new water service connection after July 1, 1962, the applicant shall make the paymen~ or deposit hereiIL%fter specified. The size and location of any such v~ater service connection shall be deter- mined by the Superintendent of the Water Department. Such payment or deposit shall cover the following services, materials and labor; installing %~ter service connection between the water main and the meter, shut off valve at the meter, outlet fitting on meter or metersetter, meter Do~nd meter, all of which shall be owned and thereafter maintained by the Water Department. For the following sizes of service connection the indicated charge shall be paid in advance: 3/4 inch service connection 50.00 I inch service connection 100.00 1 1/E inch service connection 125.00 inch service connection 150.00. Where the size of the service connection exceeds 2 inches, the applicant shall be required ~o pay a charge equal to the actual cost of such installation, plus ten per cent. The Superintendent shall estimate the charge and the applicant will deposit such amount before the work is done. An accounting shall be made of the cost of such installation. If the deposit is less khan such charge, the applicant shall pay the difference within ~en days, and if the deposit is more than such charge the difference shall be re- funded promptly.
