ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE CLASSIFiCATI@~ OF EMPLOY~[ENT <br /> AND A COHPENSATiON PLt~ FOR Eb~PLOYEES OF THE CITY. <br /> <br />Virginia: <br /> <br />Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br /> <br /> Section i~ Employees Classified. <br /> <br /> On and after July I, 1963, all emFioyees of the City of Portsmouth <br />shall be classified according ~o the kind and type of work performed by them, <br /> <br />and their compensation shall be fixed according to such classification. <br /> Section 2~ Rates of Compensation. <br /> <br /> The basic salary or compensation of each employee until otherwise <br />changed by ordinance shall be ~ccording to the Basic Pay Schedule, herein- <br /> <br />after referred to as the schedule, and which is a part of this ordinance. <br /> Section S~ Application to Present Employees~ <br /> <br /> Ail employees of the City shall receive comoensa~lon according to <br />their classification as set forth in the schedule. Any employee of the City <br />who is a~ the effective date of this ordinance receiving less than the amoun~ <br />provided for in the schedule for his range of employment, shatt~ beginning with <br />the first day of the pay period commencing on or after .July 1, 1963, as <br />appropriate~ and thereafter, receive the amount set forth in the schedule~ <br /> <br />Any employee who is receiving more on the effective date of this ordinance than <br />the amoun~ he would be entitled to receive under the schedule, shall continue <br />at the same salary until his years of service shall entitle him to an increase <br />in co~)ensation. <br /> <br /> Section 4~ New Employees, Promotions and Pay !ncreases~ <br /> <br /> The several classifications of employment shall be divided in~o pay <br />ranges as set forth in the schedule. Unless otherwise provided herein~ an <br />employee shall receive the compensation set forth in the schedule under steps <br />1, 2 and S during the First, second and third years, respectively, of his <br />employment in that range automatically.
