AN ORDINANCE TO A~ND SECTION 2-36 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY <br />OF PORTSMOIrfH, VIRGINIA, 1961, TO PROVIDE THAT LEGAL HOLIDAYS <br />FALLING ON A SATURDAY SHALL BE OBSERVED ON THE PRECEDING <br />FRIDAY AND THOSE FALLING~-ON A SUNDAY SHALL BE OBSERVED ON <br />THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, that Section 2-36 of the Code of.the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, 1961, be amended and reordained to <br />read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 2-36. Legal holidays - Generally~ <br /> <br /> The following days are designated as legal <br />holidays for all employees of the dity, except <br />policemen and firemen and those engaged in such <br />employment as necessarily require their daily <br />services, and for all state officers performing <br />duties f6r the city: New Year's Day, February <br />twenty-second, National Memorial Day, Fourth <br />of July, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving <br />Day and Christmas Day; provided~ however, that <br />whenever any of the aforesaid holidays shall <br />fall on a Saturday, they shall be observed on <br />the preceding Friday; and whenever they shall <br />fall on a Sunday, they shall be observed on <br />the following Monday. <br /> <br /> No other holidays shall be observed by <br />either state employees partly engaged pn dity work ar <br />or by city employee% except when special occasions <br />are formally authorized by resolution of the council. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held April 28, 1964. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
