<br />enact ordinances paralleling certain provisions of
<br />the $ode of Virginia, provided such ordinances are
<br />substantially consistent with the state law; and
<br />
<br /> W~RE~S, the ~eneral Assembly of Virginia at its
<br />1964 session amended certain provisions of the Code
<br />of Virginia, 1950; and
<br />
<br /> ~Z~EA£, it is therefore necessar~y to sz~nd
<br />the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virgi~ia, 1961,
<br />so as to ~%ke the s~me confo_~. 5o the changes in the
<br />Code of Virgj~uia, 1950, enacted by th~ General
<br />Assembly of Virginia at its 1964 session.

<br /> NOW, ~HEREFO.rtE, BE IT ORDAII'~ED by the Council of
<br />the C=ty of Portsmouth, Virginia:

<br /> Section 1. ~t the Code of the City of Portsmouth,
<br />VirgLnia, 1961, be ~mended by repealing section 18-54
<br />thereof, oy am~nd~ sect_ohs ~8 ~, 18-27, 18-32, 18-41,
<br />18-43, 18-46, 18-48, 18-53, 18-57, 1'8-65, 18-137~ ~8-
<br />201, 18-202, 18-208, 18-246 and 18-249, and by adding
<br />thereto sections 18-33.1 and 18~-43.1, such ~nd and
<br />new sections to read as follows:
