AN ORDINANCE TO A~ND SECTION 3 OF BN ORDINANCE ENTITLED, "AW ORDINANCE <br />IMPOSING AND COLT~.C~iNG T~tXES ON ~EAL ESTATE~ TANGiBLE PERSONAL PROPEt~Y, <br />AND MACHINERY AND TOOLS WITHIN THE LI~{ITS OF THE CITY OF POY~SMOUIH, VIRGINIA~ <br />FOR THE PURPOSE OF t~ISING ~gVtlNUE FOR THE SUPPOt~ OF T}~ GOVER~N~T AND THE <br />PLBLIC FREE SCHOOLS AND TO PAY INT~:HEST AND SINKING FUND ON THE PUBLIC DEBT <br />FOR THE YEA~ BEGINNING JANUAR~ 1, 1965," ADOPTED JANUARY 12, 1965, TO ~CREASE <br />T~E RATE OF TAX ON TANGiBLE PERSONAL PROPEFR~Y AND TO E~EMPT CE~AP~ PROPERTY <br />FROM TAXATION. . <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />that Section 3 of an ordinance entitled, "An ordinance imposing and collecting <br />taxes on real estate, tangible personal property, and machinery and tools <br />within the limits of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, for the purpose of <br />raising revenue for the support of the government and the public free schools <br />and to pay interest and sinking fund on the public debt for the year beginning <br />January l, 1965," adopted January 12, 1965, be amended aud~reordained to read <br />as follows: <br /> <br />3. Classification of Tangible Personal Property: <br /> <br /> (a) The following shall be classified as Tangible Personal Property <br />and taxed at the rate of Three Dollars ($3.00) on each one hundred dollars <br />assessedvaluation thereof: <br /> <br /> (1) The aggregate number of horses, mules and other kindred <br />animals and the value thereof. <br /> <br />(2) The number of cattle and the value thereof. <br /> <br />(~) The n~mber of sheep and goa~s and the value thereof. <br /> <br />(4) The number of hogs and the value thereof. <br /> <br /> (5) The aggregate numberand value of all automobiles, motor <br />trucks, motorcycles and all other motor vehicles, except any vehicle without <br />motive power used or designed to be used as a mobile hame or office or for <br />other means of habitation by any person. <br /> <br />(6) Tne aggregate value of all animal drawn vehicles and bicycles. <br /> <br /> (7) The aggregate value of all farming implements and tools of <br />mechanics. <br /> <br /> (8) The aggregate value of all felled timber, ties, poles, cord <br /> wood, bark and other timber products and all agricultural products, in the <br /> hands or possession, legal or constructive~ of a purchaser, provided that <br />grain, tobacco and other agricultural products.in the hands of a producer of <br /> the same are hereby declared exempt from taxation as property under this <br /> ordinance. <br /> <br /> <br />
