Section 65. Detective Agencies and Watchmen: <br /> <br /> Every person operating a detective agency or engaged in the <br />business of a detective, and every agency or person furnishing watchmen <br />including ship watching for compensation, where only one person, including <br />the owner, is employed, shall pay a license tax of $100.00; and where <br />more than one person, including the owner, is employed, there shall be an <br />additional tax of $25.00 for each employee. <br /> <br /> No detective license shall be issued until the applicant shall <br />exhibit to the Commissioner of the Revenue a pelqnit issued by the Chief of <br />Police to engage in such business. <br /> <br />Section 66. Hlectric Light and Power, Heat and Gas: <br /> <br /> .-,~ Any person who shall engage in the business of furnishing heat~ <br />ligh~an~ power, whether by means of electricity or gas, in the City of <br />Portsmouth, shall pay a license tax equal to one-half of one per cent <br />(1/2%) of the gross annual receipts accruing to such person from said <br />business in the City of Portsmouth; provided, h~ever, that there shall <br />be deducted any sum or sums paid by such person to the City as a mer- <br />chants license tax and license taxes, except motor vehicle license taxes. <br /> <br />Section 67. <br /> <br />Fortune Tellers, Clairvoyants and Practitioners of Palmistry, <br />Phrenology, and Hand Nriting Analysis: <br /> <br /> Any and every person who, for compensation, shall pretend <br />to tell fortunes or assume to act as a clairvoyant or to practice <br />palmistry, phrenology or hand writing analysisj shall pay a license <br />tax of $I0,000.00 per annum. <br /> <br />This license shall not'be proratable or transferable. <br /> <br />Section 68. Jimk and Second Hand Paper Canvassers: <br /> <br /> Every person acting as a canvasser for the purpose of buying <br />junk, second hand paper or other matter for any junk or second hand <br />paper dealer, or, for sale to such~a dealer, shall pay an annual license <br />tax of $50.00. <br /> <br /> No license shall be issued hereunder unless and until the <br />applicant shall exhibit to the Commissioner of the Revenue written <br />evidence of his appointment as a canvasser by a duly licensed junk or <br />second hand paper dealer. <br /> <br />Section 69. Junk and Second }land Paper Dealers. <br /> <br /> Every person engaging in the business of dealing in junk <br />materials or second hand paper shall pay an annual license tax of $SO.00 <br />on the first $S~000 and $.25 for each additional $I00 of his gross <br />receipts, as hereinabove defined in said business. <br /> <br />- 2S - <br /> <br /> <br />
