Be it ordained by the Council of~,th~e City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia': L <br /> <br /> Section I:Chapter 10 of the Code of the ~ity <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1961, is hereby amended by <br />adding thereto.a new article ntmbered~ XVI, such new <br />article to read as follows: ' <br /> <br />Aritcte X~JI. Sales Tax <br /> <br />Sec. 10-126. Sales Tax Levied. <br /> <br /> ~here is hereby levied smd imposed in <br />addition to all other taxes and fees. of <br />every kind, now imposed, a general iretail~ <br />sales t~ax at the rate of cme per cent to <br />provide revenue for the general ~Ok~d~' of <br />the city. ~ae rate of the tax shall be <br />added to the rave of the State retail <br />sales tax ~aposed by the "~inia Retail <br />Sales sm~l Use Tax Act," (ChaPter .8.1 of <br />Title 58 of the Code of Vi~oir~ia, 1950) <br />and shall be subject to all the provisions <br />of said act, s_I1 ~me~ents t~reof, and <br />all rules ~nd reguiatiom~ published with <br />respect thereto, except that the appli- <br />cable brackets of prices shall be as <br />prescribed -in Sections 58~441.50 and <br />58-441.51 of the Code of Virgir~a, ~1950, <br />for the combined tsx and excep6 tlda~ no <br />discount under Section 58-441.25 of the <br />Code of VLrgi~ia, 1951, shall be allowed <br />on the tax levied by this section, <br /> <br /> Section 2: It is the purpose of the Council <br />in adoptir~ t,his ordir~nce vo ie~ th8 general re- <br />tail sales tax authorized to be levied by Section <br />58-441.49 of ti~e Code of Virgir~a, 1950. <br /> <br /> <br />
