~N ORDINANCE I/~OSINO ~qD COT.T~.CTING TAXES ON REAL ESTATE~ TANGIBLE PERSONAL PROPERTY, AND MACHII~iR_Y ~iD TOOLS WITHIN THE LI~ OF THE CITY OF po~ffS~D~I, VIRGINIA, FOR ~ PURPOSE OF RAISING REVENUE FOR THE SUPPORT OF qTNE GOVE~ME~ A~]3 ~ PUBLIC FPF~ SCHOOLS MID TO PAY IN~T ~D SI]qKING FL~D ON %~r~d P~JLtC DEBT FOR THE YEAR BEG/tiNNING JANUARY 4 1966. Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth~ Virginia: 1. For the year beginning Jsnuary 1, 1966, and for each year thereafter until annulled by ordinance, the following tax shall be placed on real estate, tangible personal proper~y, and machinery and tools within the 13m~its of the City of Portsmouth~ for the pu_~pose of raising revenue for the support of the government and the public free schools and to paY interest and sinking fund on the public debt, 2. The tax on real estate for the City of Portsmouth~ Virginia, ~sbs]] be Two ($2.00) Dollars on each one hundred dollars assessed valuation thereof. 3. Classification of Tang~ible Personal Property: (a) The following shall be classified as Tangible Personal. Property and taxed at the rate of Three Dollars ($3.00) on each one hundred do%lars assessed valuation thereof: (1) q~ne aggregate number of horses, mules and other kindred animals and the value thereof. (2) The number of cattle and the value thereof. thereof. (3) The number of sheep and goats and the value (4) The number of hogs and the value thereof. (5) The aggregate number and value of all autom~oiles~ motor trucks~ motorcycles and all other motor vebicles~ except any vehicle wi~thout motive power used or desired to be used as a m~Dile home or office or for other means of habitation by any person~ (6) The aggregate value of all animal drawn vehicles and bicycles. (7) The aggregate value of all farming i~oiements and tools of mechar~cs.
