AN OEDIN~{CE TO ~,~ND SECTIONS 230-44 ~D 230-70, OF THE <br />N~IONAL EI.ECTRZCAL CODE, 1965, PEF~AINING TO WIRING <br />I'~fHODS AND DISCOh]k~CTING i~NS GEEERALLY. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of ti~e City of Portamouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br />1. That sections 230-44 mud 230-70 of the National Electrical Code, <br />1965, be a~ended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 230-~4. Wiring Methods. <br /> <br /> Service-entrance conductors extending along the exterior, or <br />entering buildings or other structures may be installed as separate <br />conductors, in cables approved for the purpose, or enclosed in rigid <br />conduit, or for circuits nov exceeding 600 volts, in electrical metal- <br />lic tubing, wireways, auxiliary gutters, or as busways. <br /> <br />Service-entrance conductors, shall not be run within the <br />hotl~ spaces of frame buildings tunless provided with overcurren~ pro- <br />~tection at their outer end. <br /> <br />Sec. 230-70. General. <br /> <br /> (a) Discormection from Service Conductors. Means shall be <br />provided for disconnecti~ all conductors in the buildi~ or other <br />structure from the service entrance conductors. <br /> <br /> (b) Location. The discounectirg memns shall be located at <br />a readily accessible point nearest ~o the envrmnce of the conductors, <br />either inside or outside the buildirg or.other structure; provided, <br />however, that the service disconnecti~memns, if inside, shall be <br />within 25 feet of the point of entry of service conductors unless per~ <br />mitted els~fnere by the electrical inspector; mud f~rther provided, <br />that bathrooms, toilets, pantries and closets shall no~ be considered <br />readily accessible unless so determined by the electrical inspector. <br />See also section 230-45 and section 110-16. <br /> <br /> (c) Approval. The d~scormecting means shall be o£ a type <br />approved for service equipment and for prevailirg conditions. <br /> <br /> (d) Types Permitted. The disconnectirg means for mn- <br />grounded conductors shall consist of either: <br /> <br /> (1) A manually operable switch or circuit-breaker equipped <br />with a handle or other suitable operating mea~ positively identified <br />and marked for mechanical operation by hand. <br /> <br /> <br />
