AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE CLASSIFICAT, ION OF EE~PLOYMEN~ <br /> · AND A COMPENSATION PLAN FOR FIREMEN AND POLICEMEN OF THE CITY <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> Section 1. Employe~s Classified. <br /> <br /> On and after July I, 1966, all Firemen and Policemen of the City <br /> <br />of Portsmouth shall be classified according to their rank and their <br /> <br />compensation shall be fixed according to such rank held. <br /> Section 2. Rates of Compensation. <br /> <br /> The basic salary of compensation of each Fireman and Policeman <br />until otherwise changed by Ordinance, shalI be accordingto, the schedule of <br />pay hereinafter set forth designated as Schedule A and made a part of this <br />ordinance except that men in the PoIice Department required to wear <br />civilian clothes will be allowed an additional twenty dollars {$20.00) per <br />month as a clothing allowance. <br /> <br /> Section $. Application to Present Firemen and Policemen.. <br /> <br /> Ail Firemen and Policemen of the City shall'receive the same ~ <br />compensation according to their classification as set forth in .Schedule A <br />of thi§ Ordinance. Any Fireman or Policeman of the City who is at the <br />effective date of this Ordinance receiving less than the amount prgvided <br />for in the schedule for his class of employment shall on and after <br /> <br />July 1, 1966, receive the amount set forth in the schedule, Any Fireman <br />or Policeman who is receiving on the effective date of this Ordinance, more <br />than the amount he would be entitled to receive under'said schedule, shall <br />continue at the same salary until his years of service shall entitle him to <br />an increase in compensation. <br /> <br /> Section 4. New Employees. <br /> <br /> Any person hereafter employed by the City shall receive compensation <br />during the first, s~cond, third, fourth, and seventh years of his employment as <br />set forth in Schedule A of this Ordinance. No employee shall rJceive <br />comoensa~ion provided for in the tenth year until completion of ten full <br /> <br /> <br />
