Section 9. Salary adjus~,nents. Salary adjustments based ow length of service shall became ef- fective on the f~rst day of July of each year. For the purposes of t~his ordinance only~ service for a fractional part of a year consisting of six months or more shall be treated as a whole year. Section 10, Overtime and additional ccm~er~ation, (a) Fir~nen and policamen whos~ rate of pay is fixed on a month- ly basis shall not receive any campensation for extra or overt~ae work~ except in cases of amergency or as hereinafter provided. ~my extra compensation allowed must be approved in advance of tt~e performance of the work by the Oaief of the respective depar~ent with the approval of the City M~mm~ger and must be entered by the Chief on the next succeeding payroll submitted to the City Auditor. (b) Anything herein to the contra~-y notwithstanding, ar~ m~uber of the fire depar~nent below the ram2< of assistant chief and m~, ma~ber of the police department below the rank of captain, placed on special assignment duty shall be paid at the rave of $2.50 per hour for the time spent on such duty. Such additional cm,~per~ation must be enter- ed by the chief of the depar~aent on the r~ext succeedimg payroll sub- ~,~itted to the City Auditor. Ail special assig~nents must be authorized ~y the chief of the department~ or during his absence or disability~ by the Deputy Chief. 0vert~me work shall not be considered special ass~n- merit duty. (c) Anything herein to the contra~j notwithstanding, m~& ma~ber of the police depar~nenv who appears as a witness~ v~en not on a re~lsr assigned period of duty, in any case arisir~ under the ordinances of the Cit~ of Portsuouth in the Court of Hustings for the City of Portsmouti~ shall be paid a witness fee of $2.00 for each suc~ appearance. Such ap- pearsances slnalt be certified by the Clerk of the Court to the ~uief of Police who shall report s~ne to the City Auditor on such fo-~ms at suclo tf~mes as the City Auditor may prescribe. (d) ~he additional cm~pensation authorized tunder subsections '(b) mhd (c) above .s~mlt be in addition to all other cc~aper~ation~ ali~v~mnces ~nd payments authorized by this or ~ oti~er ordinmace or law.
