Section 4. Application to prese_nt ~men and policemen. <br /> <br /> On a~ after July 1~ 1968, all persons ~noare employed as fire, hen <br />and policemen on that date shall be paid compensation according to their <br />rank and the appropriate step vdthLu such r~nk as set forth in the schedule <br />of pay. Steps 1,2~3~8,5~ and 6 of the schedule of pay shall correspond to the <br />first~ second~ third, fourth, fifth, and sixth years of employment in such <br />department; provided, however, that any person, who, as of July 1, 1968, <br />shall have been employed by such department for at least six years and <br />six months but less than r~ne years and six months, shall be paid at the <br />rate £dr Step 5 in his r~k for the fiscal year beginming on said date} <br />and provided further, that ~ny such person, ~no as of July 1, 1968, shall <br />have been employed by such department for nine years and six months or <br />more shall be paid a~ the ra~e for Step 6 in his rsmk. On and after Jmly 1, <br />1969, 8my fireman or policem~n~ who shall have served in such department for <br />five years ~nd six months or more shall be paid at the rate for Step 6 <br />inhis rank. <br /> <br />Section 5. Ne~; ~nployees. <br /> <br /> Any person employed as a policeman or fireman by the City after <br />July 1, 1968, shall receive compensation during the first, second, third, <br />fourth, fifth~ and sixth years of his employment in accordancewith the <br />schedule of pay se~ forth above. <br /> <br />Section 6. Promotions. <br /> <br /> Any fireman or policemanwho is promoted to a higher rarR sh~ll <br />receive compensation according to the rar~ in which he is placed and his <br />length of service. <br /> <br />Section 7. Demotions. <br /> <br /> Any fireman or policeman wh8 is demoted to a lower rar~ shall receive <br />compensation according to the rank in ~ich he is placed andhis length <br />of service. <br /> <br />Section 8. Reinstated firemen smd policemen. <br /> <br /> Any fireman or policeman~fno is reinstated within one year after <br />he has left the employment of the City shall receiye comper~ation according <br />to the class ~n which he is placed~ but not to exceed the rate of pay he <br />would have received had he not left the employment of the City. <br /> <br />-2- <br /> <br /> <br />
