Section 7. Advancement within grade. <br /> <br /> Ail increases in compensation for persons in the classified service <br />shall be granted by vhe City M~nager on reconmaendation of the employee's <br />department head on the basis of exceptional merit. Such increases shall be <br />granted in sequence by advancing the employee to the next step in grade <br />unless otherwise expressly authorized by the City M~r~ger. Mere length <br />of service shall not entitle an employee to an advancement to the next <br />step in his grade. <br /> <br />Section 8. Application to present employees. <br /> <br /> Ail en~loyees of the City, other tbmn firemen and policemen, shall <br />receive compensation according to their classification and as provided in <br />this ordinance. <br /> <br />Section 9. New ~mployees. <br /> <br /> Any person employed after July 1, 1968, shall receive compensation <br />according to the classification in~nich he is placed; except that persons <br />employed on or after that date ~nd slassified under Section 4 of this <br />ordinance, shall be placed in the vrobation steps for his grade for a <br />period of not less than two weeks nor more tbmm six months, but no-person <br />shall serve ina probation svep for more than six mmnths. <br /> <br />Section 10. Promotions. <br /> <br /> Upon promotion to a higher pay grade, the ampioyee ~11 be placed <br />the lowest step which will afford biw,~ an increase in pay. <br /> <br />Section 11. Damotions. <br /> <br /> Any employee who is demoved to a lower grade shall receive cc~en- <br />sation according to the grade and step in which he is Dlaced by the City <br />Manager. <br /> <br />Section 12. ~ransfers. <br /> <br /> Any employee transferred to another class of en~plo~vnent in a hi~her <br />pay grade, shall be deemed to ?~ve been pro=Dted and shall be entitled to <br />compensation as provided in Section 10 gsove, and any employeetransferred <br />to another class of emplo~f~ent in a lower pay ~ade~ shall be deemed to <br />have been demoted, and sbmli be entitled to co=pensation as provided in <br />Section 11 above. <br /> <br />Section 13. Reinstated E?loyees. <br /> <br /> Any person who is reinstated wit~hin one year after he has left the <br />employment of the City sb~li receive co~. creation according to the grade <br />and stem in which he is placed by the City M~anager~ no5 to exceed, however~ <br />the ra~e of pay he would receive D~d he not left the emp_ loyment of the City. <br /> <br />-15- <br /> <br /> <br />
