~ ORD~CE TO Y2~ND SECTIONS 230-44 AND 230-70, <br />OF T~HE NATIO ~NAL EU,ECTRZCAL CODE, 1968, PERTAINING <br />TO WIRIMG ~i~0DS ~ DISCO~%~CTING ?~S 0EN~RALLY. <br /> <br />Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. ~o~t Sections 230-44 and 230-70 of the Natior~t Electrical Code, <br />1968, be mmenda~, and reor~sined to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 230-44. Wiring Methods. <br /> <br /> Service-entrance conductors extendi~ a~on~ the exterior or <br />entering buildings or other str~ctures may be installed as follows: <br /> <br /> (a) As seps~ate conductors, in cables spproved for the pu~ose, or <br />enclosed in rigid conduit; <br /> <br /> (b) For circuits not exceeding 600 ~olts the conductors my be <br />installed in electrical meva!lic tubing, wirew~ys, auxiliary gutters~ bus- <br />ways or as a cablebus installed for se~ices in accordance ~th A~ticIe 365. <br /> <br /> Service-entrance conductors shall not be ru~ within the hollow <br />spaces of frame buildings unless provided~th overc~u~rent protection at <br />their outer end. <br /> <br />Sec. 230-70. General. <br /> <br /> (a) Disconnection from Se~-ice Conductors. Means shall be provided <br />for UN_scomnecting all conductors in the building or other struct~_~e from the <br />service entrance conductors. <br /> <br /> (b) Location. Tne discomnecti~me~ns shall be located at a readily <br />accessible point nearest to the entra~ce of the conductors, either inside or <br />outside the building or other struct~e; provided, however, that the service <br />disconnecting means, if ir~ide, sb~ll be within 25 feet of the point of ent~ <br />of service conductors unless permitted else~.fnere by t~e electrical inspector <br />an~ further provided, that bathrooms~ toilets~ ps~ntries and closets shall not <br />be considera~ readily accessible ur~ess so determined by the electrical inspector. <br />Sufficient access and ~rking space sbmli be provided about the discomnecting <br />means. <br /> <br /> In maltiple occupancy building~ each occupant shall have access to <br />bis disconnecti~g ~ans.
