Ci~itable service. ~b.e term "creditable service" shall be taken to <br />mean for any m~uber the most recent period of continuous service as an <br />ployee rendered by the m~nber; provided~ however, that continuous service <br />shat I not be considered to have been interrupted by any period or periods <br />of authorized leave of absence er by any period or periods of service in <br />the armed forces of the United States which did not give rise to termi- <br />nation of membership in the system. <br /> <br /> Employee. The word "employee" shall be taken to mean any person regu- <br />larly employed in the service of the city on a full time permanent basis mmi <br />whose cempensation is wholly paid by the city, and persons holdirg offices <br />in the city required by the Constitution of this state and their deputiesj <br />assistants and employees employed on a full time permanent basis and whose <br />campensation is paid partly by the city and partly by the state, but shall <br />not include any person who is eligible for membership in the Virginia Re- <br />tirement System or in any other retirement or pension system established <br />by the city. In case of doubt the Board shall decide who is an employee <br />with the meanirg of the article. <br /> <br /> Employer, The " ' ~ ~ <br /> word employer shall be taken to mean the city or the <br />authority of the city b~aving the powe~ to appoint an employee to office or <br />ampl oyment. <br /> <br /> E~.aminer. The word "examiner" gnall be taken to mean the medical ex- <br />aminers~ provided for in section 26-18. <br /> <br /> Maximum retirement age. The term '~axim~m retirament age" shall be <br />taken to mean age seventy durirg the calendar year 1969, age sixty-r~ue dur- <br />irg the calendar year 1970, age sixty-eight during the caier~ar year 1971, <br />age sixty-seven during the calendar year 1972j age sixty-six during the <br />calendar ~ear 1973, and age sixty-five durirg and after the calendar year <br />1974. <br /> <br /> Mamber. The word '~nember" shalI be ta~ken to mean ar~ employee who is <br />included in the membership of the system as provided in sections 29-19 and <br />26-20. <br /> <br /> Normal retirement date. ~ne term "nonral retirament date" shall 'se <br />taken to mean the first of the month next followir~ or coincidinE ~ith the <br />sixty-fifth birthday of a member. <br /> <br /> ~ Retirement allower~ce. The term "retirement a]low~nce" shall be taken <br />to mean the retirement payments to wb~tch a member is entitled as provided in <br />this article. <br /> <br /> ~Service. ~e word "service" shall be taken to mean service as an <br />ployee for which cm~pensation is paid by the amployer. <br /> <br /> -System.
