AN ORDINANCE TO ~2~n~D SECTION 3-2 OF THE ZONZWG ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORTSM~OL~i~H~ 19617 SO AS TO DEFI~E RESPECTIVELY: JL~K, JUNKYARDS, 0PF~ BLL%MI]~G AND ~P PROCESSOR. Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that Section 3-2 of the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1961, be a~ended and reordsined to read as follows: Section 3-2. Definitions. Unless otherwise empressty stated the follo~ng words shall for the purpose of t~his ordinance~ have the meanir~ herein indicated. Words used in the present tense include the future. The singul~a~ number includes the plural and the plural the singular. ?ne word ~shall': is mandato~y~ not directory. -(a) Automobile Repair Garage -- Any building or part thereof wherein is kept or stored a motor vehicle ha~ring arj gasoline, or other volatile flarmmable fuel in its fuel storage tar~: or ~nerein painting, body and fender work, engine overhauli~ or other m~jor repair of motor vehicles is performed. This occupancy shall not include automotive se~_ce stations as defined herein. (b) Automotive Se~ice Stations -- Automotive Ser~ice Station is A place of retail business at ~fnich outdoor automotive refueling is c~r_ied on ~sir~ fixed dispensing equipment co.~ected vo ~ndergrou_nd storage tar~s by a closed system of piping~ ~nd at v~aich goods and services generally re- quired in the operation ~nd maintenance of motor vehicles s~nd fulfiliir~s of motorist needs may also be available. The buildimg consists of a sales of- flce ~fnere automotive accessories and packaged autorrotive supplies r~y be kept or displayed, it may also include one or more service bays ~a v~nich vcb~icle washing~ lubrication sand minor replacement~ adjustment ~a~d reoair services ere rendered. Such use shall not include the ovex~_.Aght outdoor storage of self-propelled motor vehicles, whether q0erative or inopera~ive. (c) Biiibo~_~d -- Any notice or advertisamen%, pictorial or othe~se~ with an area of 275 or more square feet~ s_nd, without regard to area: s2l those used as an outdoor display for the purpose of ms/~ng ar~vtbAng _~zno~rn~ the origin or place of sale of-~f~tch is not on the plot m~ith such disp!ay~ except that goverr~ntai notices shall not be consider- ~ to be bit!bo~ds~ [ see def~oition of '~sigan~ Section 3-2 (Z)].
