AN ORDINANCE TO AMF. ND THE CODEr OF T~LE ~ITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1961, BY AIr'ENDInG CHAPTER 11, ARTICLE _zII THEREOF SO AS TO ADOPT THE FIRE PRE~ENTION CODE, 1970 EDITION~ OF THE AMERICAN INSURANC~ ASSOCi- CIATION ~ND THE STANDARDS AND RECO~ENDED PRACTICES OF THE NATIONAL FIRE CODES, 1970-71 EDITION, AS THE FIRE PREVENTION CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH; AND BY ~2¥[ENDING CHAPTER 11, ARTICLE IV, SECTIONS 11-24.1-~ AND 1tv24.2 TREREOF. Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Rortsmouth, Virginia, that Chapter 11 Of the Code of the City of Portsmouth~ Virginia, 1961, Article III thereof, and Article IV, Sections 11-24.1 and 11-2~.2 thereof, be amended and reordained to read as follows: ARTICLE III. FIRE PREVENTION CODE Section 11-19. Adoption. Pursuant to Code of Virginia, section 27-5.1, there is here- b~ adopted by the City Council for the purpose of prescribiog regulations governing conditions hazardous to life and property from fire or explo- sion, that certain code known as the Fire Prevention Code recommended by'the ~nerican Insurance Association being particularly the 1970 Edition~ thereof~, and the whole thereof, save and except such portions as are hereinafter deleted, modified or amended, and the same is hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out a~ length herein, and from the dat~ on which this article shall take effect, the provisions thereof shall be controlling within the limits of the city; provided~ that: (1) Where the word munmcmpal~.ty'~ ms used in the Fire Preven- tion Code, 1970 Edition, hereby adopted, it shall be held to mean the City of Portsmouth. (2) 5nless specifically provided for in other ordinances or codes each and every Standard and Recommended Practice set forth in volumes 1 ~hrough 10 of the N~tional Fire Codes, 1970-71 Edition thereof~ published by the National Fire Protection Association, is incorporated in this article by reference as a part of the Fire Prevention Code, 1970 Edition~ hereby adopted, as fully as if set out at length herein~ (3) Article 13 of such Fire Prevention Code, 1970 Edition~ is hereby deleted in its entirety. (4) Tha l~mits referred to in sectiom 16.22a of the Fire Pre- vention Code~__.l~70 Edition, hereby adopted~ in which storage of fia~mmab!e liquids im outside abovegroumd tanks is prohibited~ shall be those areas which from time to time are specified for such purpose by ordinance~ or which are classified as being in the Industrial M-I, Commericat C-2 and Co~erical C-3 Districts under the Zoning Ordinance~ except that resi- dential str~c~ures existing in s-u~h districts as of the-effective date
