AN ORDINANCE I~[~OSiNG AND COLLECTING TA~S ON ~EAL ESTATE, <br />TANGIBLE PERSONAL PROPERTY~ Ai~D ~ICHINERY AND TOOLS WITHIN <br />THE LI~'~.~TS OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, FOR THE PUR- <br />POSE OF P~ISING REVENUE FOR THE SUPPORT OP THE GOVEP~'~ENT <br />AND THE PUBLIC FREE SCHOOLS AND TO PAY INTEPJ~ST AND SINKING <br />FUND ON THE PUBLIC DEBT FOR THE FISCAL, YEAR BEGINNING JULY <br />1, 1970, ~ND ENDING JUNE 30, 1971. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Ports- <br />mouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. For the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1970, and <br />ending June 30, 1971, and for each fiscal year thereafter until <br />annulled by ordinance, the following tax shall be placed on real <br />estate, tangible personal property, and machinery and tools with- <br />in the limits of the City of Portsmouth, for~the purpose of rais- <br />ing revenue for the support of the government and the public free <br />schools and to pay interest and sinking fund on the public debt. <br /> <br /> 2. The tax on real estate for the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, shall be Two and 25/100 ($2.25) Dollars on each one <br />hundred dollars assessed valuation thereof. <br /> <br /> 3. Classification of To. ng_ble Personal Property: <br /> <br /> (a) The following shall be classified as Tangible <br />Personal Property and taxes at the rate of Four ($4.00) Dollars <br />on each one hundred dollars assessed valuation thereof. <br /> <br /> (1) The aggregate number of horses, mules <br />and.other kindred animals and the value thereof. <br /> <br />(2) The number of cattle and the value thereof. <br /> <br />(3) The number of sheep and goats and t~e <br /> <br />value thereof. <br /> <br />(4) The number of hogs and the value thereof. <br /> <br /> (5) The aggregate number and value of all auto- <br />mobiles, motor trucks, motorcycles and all other motor vehicles, <br />except any vehicle without motive power used or designed to be <br />used as a mobile home or office, or for other means of hs~itation <br />by any person. <br /> <br />(6) The aggregate value of all animal drawn <br />vehicles and bicycles. <br /> <br /> <br />
