AIN ORDINANCE IF~OSING AND COLLECTING TAXES ON REAL ESTATE, <br />TANGIBLE PERSONAL PROPERTY, AND MACHINERY AND TOOLS WITHIN <br />THE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, FOR THE PUR- <br />POSE OF RAISING REVENUE FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE GOVERN~ENT <br />AND THE PUBLIC FREE SCHOOLS AND TO PAY INTEREST AND SINKING <br />FUND ON THE PUBLIC DEBT FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY <br />1, 1971, AND ENDING JUNE 30, 1972. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Ports- <br />mouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. For the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1971, and <br />ending June 30, 1972, and for each fiscal year thereafter until <br />annulled by ordinance, the following tax shall be placed on real <br />estate, tangible personal property, and machinery and tools with- <br />in the limits of the City of Portsmouth, for the purpose of rais- <br />ing revenue for the support of the government and the public free <br />schools and to pay interest and sinking fund on the public debt. <br /> <br /> 2. The tax on real estate for the City of <br />Virginia, shall be 5~o and 25/100 ($2.25) Dollars on <br />hundred dollars assessed valuation thereof. <br /> <br />Portsmouth, <br />each one <br /> <br />3. Classification of Tangible Personal Property: <br /> <br /> (a) The following shall be classified as Tangible <br />Personal Property and taxes at the rate of Four ($4.00) Dollars <br />on each one hundred dollars assessed valuation thereof. <br /> <br /> (1) The aggregate number of horses, mules <br />and other kindred animals and the value thereof. <br /> <br />(2) The number of cattle and the value <br /> <br />thereof. <br /> <br />(3) The number of sheep and goats and the <br /> <br />value thereof. <br /> <br />(4) The number of hogs and the value thereof. <br /> <br /> (5) The aggregate nu~foer and value of all <br />automobiles, motor trucks, motorcycles and all other motor ve- <br />hicles, except any vehicle without motive power used or designed <br />to be used as a mobile home or office, or for other means of <br />habitation by any person. <br /> <br />(6) The aggregate value of all animal drawn <br />vehicles and bicycles. <br /> <br /> <br />
