Section 31-38.1. Clean-up. <br /> <br /> As t_hs excavati~ work progresses, the work area shall be <br />throughly cleaned of all~ rubbish, excess earth, rock and other d~bris <br />result/ng frc~ such wozk. All clean-up operations at such sibe ~hall <br />be accomplished at the expense of the permittee and shall be cc~pleted <br />to the satisfaction of the city engineer. <br /> <br />Section 31-39. Backfilling; charge when charges F~id prove <br /> insufficient. <br /> <br /> The permittee shall promptly refill any trendues or openings <br />made with adequate fill mterial in layers not to exceed six to eight <br />inches in thickness, thoroughly tamping each layer until such trench or <br />opening is filled level with the adjoining surface, leaving the s~mle <br />smooth and safe for travel. Tunnels will be backfilled evenly and fully <br />so that the density of the fill will be equal to that of the surrounding <br />surfaces. Broken pav~uent, large stones, roots and other debris shall <br />not be used in the backfill. Should it d~gel~p that the amount of pave- <br />ment r~moved or disturbed was underestimated, the city engineer shall <br />make out a bill for the excess including the charge for bricks or paving <br />blocks not returned and re~,i~e the applicant to pay t~ s~e. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia~ <br />at a meeting held March 23, 1971. <br /> <br />Attest: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
