AN ORDI~-~ANCE TO ~END THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTS- <br />~iOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1961, BY ADDING TO CHAPTER 2 THEREOF, A NEW <br />ARTICLE CONSISTING OF ELEVEN SECTIONS, PERTAINING TO THE ESTAB- <br />LIS~fE~T OF A MUSEUM AND FINE ARTS COmmISSION AND ITS ORGANI- <br />ZATION AND DUTIES~ <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Ports- <br />mouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> i. That the code o~ the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />1961 be amended by adding to Chapter 2 thereof a new article, <br />such new article to read as follows: <br /> <br />Article XIII. Museum and Fine Arts Commission <br /> <br />Section 2-95. <br /> <br />Museum and Fine Arts Commission ---Created; comp- <br />osition; terms of members, vacancies; oath; compen- <br />sation. <br /> <br /> There is hereby created a commission to be known as the <br />museum and fine arts commission, which shall consist of fifteen <br />members who shall be citizens of the city and shall be elected by <br />the council. Of the original board, five members shall be elect- <br />ed for a term of one year, five members shall be elected for a <br />term of two years and five members shall be elected for a term of <br />three years. At the e~piration of the respective terms of such <br />men~bers their successors shall be elected for terms of three years. <br />The members shall hold office during their respective terms and <br />until their successors are elected and qualified. AlL vacancies <br />shall be filled by election by the council for the remainder of <br />the unexpired term. The mer~oers of the museum and fine arts <br />commission shall serve as such without compensation. <br /> <br />Section 2-96. Removal of members. <br /> <br /> Any me~er of the commission may be removed by the <br />council for inefficiency, neglect of duty, misfeasance, or <br />malfeasance of office. <br /> <br />Section 2-97. Same --- Organization meeting; quorum, rules, and <br /> regulations. <br /> <br /> The members of the museum and fine arts commission <br />shall, i~nediately after their election and qualification, meet <br />and organize. A majority of the members of the museum and fine <br />arts commission shall constitute a quoru~ for the transaction <br />of business. The museum and fine arts commission shall make and <br />adopt such bylaws, rules and regulations for their guidance as <br />may be deemed necessary and expedient. <br /> <br /> <br />
