AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1961 BY AMENDING SECTION 11-19 THEREOF SO AS TO <br />ADOPT THE STANDARDS AND RECOMMENDED.PRACTICES OF THE NAT- <br />IONAL FIRE CODES, 1971-72 EDITION, AS A PART OF THE FIRE <br />PREVENTION CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1o That Section 11-19 of the code of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1961 be amended and reordained <br />to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 11-19. Adoption. <br /> <br /> Pursuant to Code of Virginia, section 27-5.1, <br />there is hereby adopted by the City Council for the purpose <br />of prescribing regulations governing conditions hazardous <br />to life and property from fire or explosion that certain <br />code known as the Fire Prevention Code recommended by the <br />American Insurance Association being particularly the 1970 <br />Edition thereof, and the whole thereof, save and except <br />such portions as are hereinafter deleted, modified or amended, <br />and the same is hereby adopted and incorporated as fully <br />as if set out at length herein, and from the date on which <br />this article shall take effect, the provisions thereof <br />shall be controlling within the limits of the city; pro- <br />vided, that: <br /> <br /> (1) Where the word "municipality" is used in the <br />Fire Prevention Code, 1970 Edition, hereby adopted, it shall <br />be held to mean the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> (2) Unless specifically provided for in other <br />ordinances or codes each and every Standard and Recommended <br />Practice set forth in volumes 1 through 10 of the National <br />Fire Codes, 1971-72 Edition thereof, published by the Nat- <br />ional Fire Protection Association, is incorporated in this <br />article by reference as a part of the Fire Prevention Code, <br />1970 Edition, hereby adopted~ as fully as if set out at <br />length herein; <br /> <br /> (3) Article 13 of such Fire Prevention Code, 1970 <br />Edition, is hereby deleted in its entirety. <br /> <br /> (4) The limits referred to in section 16.22a of <br />the Fire Prevention Code, 1970 Edition, hereby adopted, in <br />which storage of flammable liquids in outside aboveground <br />tanks is prohibited, shall be those areas which from time <br /> <br /> <br />
