on vehicles operated as public carriers, and signal lamps. <br /> <br /> Only those vehicles listed in paragraph (a) of <br />section 18-82 and paragraph (a) hereof and school buses may <br />be equipped with flashing, blinking or alternating red emer- <br />gency lights of a type approved by the superintendent. <br /> <br /> Vehicles used for the principal purpose of towing <br />disabled vehicles or in constructing, maintaining and repair- <br />ing highways or utilities on or along public highways may be <br />equipped with flashing, blinking or alternating amber warning <br />lights of a type approved by the superintendent. <br /> <br /> (a) A member of any fire department, volunteer <br />fire company or volunteer rescue squad may equip one vehicle <br />owned by him with a flashing or steady-burning red light of <br />a type approved by the superintendent, for use by him only <br />in answering emergency calls. <br /> <br /> Any person violating the provision of this section <br />shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. <br /> <br /> (b) Blue lights, steady or flashing, of a type <br />approved by the superintendent shall be reserved for civil <br />defense vehicles, publicly or privately owned. <br /> <br /> (c) Any fire vehicle used exclusively for fire fight- <br />ing, any ambulance or rescue or life-saving vehicle used for <br />the principal purpose of emergency relief or any wrecker used <br />for the principal purpose of towing disabled vehicles may be <br />equipped with clear auxiliary lamps which shall be used <br />exclusively for lighting emergency scenes. Such lamps shall <br />be of a type permitted by the Superintendent, and shall not be <br />used in a manner which will tend to blind or interfere with <br />the vision of the operators of approaching vehicles. In ~o <br />event shall such lamps be lighted while the vehicle is in <br />motion. <br /> <br /> No motor vehicle shall be operated on any highway <br />which is equipped with any lighting device other than lamps <br />required or permitted in this article or required or approved <br />by the superintendent or required by the Federal Department of <br />Transportation. <br /> <br />Section 18-224. <br /> <br />Within what distances brakes should stop <br />vehicle. <br /> <br /> On a dry, hard, approximately level stretch of high- <br />way free from loose material~ the service braking system shall <br />be capable of stopping a motor vehicle or combination of ye- <br /> <br />-7- <br /> <br /> <br />
