AN ORDINANCE TO D2~ND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIR- <br />GINIA, 1961, BY AMENDING SECTION 2-96 THEREOF PERTAINING TO <br />THE DEPARTI~N? OF ENGINEERING. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Ports- <br />mouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That the Code of-the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br />ginia, 1961, be amended and reordained tO read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 2-96. Functions. <br /> <br />The department of engineering shall be responsible <br /> <br />for: <br /> <br /> (a) the making of such surveys, reports, maps, draw- <br />mngs, plans, specifications and estimates as may be requested <br />from time to time by the council, the city manager or the head <br />of any department, or any board, commission or agency of the <br />city; provided, that the city manager may, with the approval <br />of the council, employ consulting engineers or architects in <br />connection with the design of any building, work or improvement; <br /> (b) the custody of all maps or plans of the city or <br />any part thereof which were filed at the effective date of this <br />ordinance mn the office of tbs director of public works and all <br />such maps or plans hereafter made and not expressly required by <br />law or ordinance to be filed in some other place; <br /> (cD the supervlsion of the. execution and performance <br />of all contracts for capital improvement projects; <br /> (d) traffic engineerlng and street lighting; and <br /> (e) such other powers and duties as may be assigned <br />to the department by the city manager° <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held April 11~ 1972. <br /> <br />Tes te: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
