Sec. 18-268. Penalties. <br /> <br /> Any person who shall remove, change, alter, or mutilate <br />any bicycle frame number in violation of section 18-263, shall, <br />upon conviction thereof, be fined not more than fifty dollars for <br />each offense, and any person who shall violate any other provision <br />of this article shall, upon conviction thereof, be f~ned not less <br />than one dollar nor more than twenty dollars for each offense. <br /> <br />Division 2. Operation and Equipment. <br /> <br />Sec. 18-269. Compliance with traffic signals. <br /> <br /> Every person riding a bicycle over any street shall <br />comply with all traffic signs, signals and lights and with all <br />directions given by any member of the department of police. <br /> <br />Sec. 18-270. Hand signals. <br /> <br /> Before turning or altering the course of operation of <br />any bicycle, the operator thereof shall give signals by evidence <br />of the hand to indicate the direction in which it is intended to <br />turn. <br /> <br />Sec. 18-271. Holding to moving vehicles. <br /> <br /> No person riding a bicycle shall take or catch hold <br />of any moving automobile, bus or other vehicle of any kind for <br />the purpose of being drawn or propelled by the same. <br /> <br />Sec. 18-272. Riding on sidewalks. <br /> <br /> (a) No person shall ride a bicycle upon any side- <br />walks whether paved or unpaved in a district zoned commercial. <br /> <br /> (b) Whenever any person shall ride a bicycle on the <br />sidewalks, whether paved or unpaved, such person shall yield <br />the right of way to any pedestrian and shall give an audible <br />signal before overtaking and passing any pedestrian, and shall <br />ride in single file. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br />ginia, at a meeting held March 28, 1972. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br />-3- <br /> <br /> <br />
