AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, <br />1961 BY AMENDING SECTION 2-67.1 PERTAINING TO THE COMPOSITION AND <br />THE APPOINTMENT AND TERM OF MEMBERS OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION <br />COMMISSION. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />1961 be amended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 2-67.1. Composition, appointment and term of members, <br /> vacancies. <br /> <br /> The commission shall consist of nine members. One of <br />such members shall be a member of the school board and one an <br />appointed member of the planning commission, to be elected by <br />the council for terms of two years from the first day of July, <br />1959, and every two years thereafter. In no case shall a member <br />so elected continue to be a member of the commission after the <br />expiration of his term as a member of the school board or the <br />planning commission, as the case may be. Seven of such members <br />shall be qualified voters of the city and shall be elected by <br />the council for terms of three years; provided, that of those <br />first elected, one shall be elected for one year, one for two <br />years and one for three years from the first day of July, 1959, <br />and thereafter one shall be elected for two years and one for <br />three years from the first day of July, 1962, and one shall be <br />elected for two years and one for three years from the first <br />day of July, 1972. Vacancies shall be filled by the council <br />for the unexpired portion of the term. <br /> <br /> 2o That this ordinance shall take effect from the date <br />of its'passage. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth~ Vir- <br />ginia, at a meeting held August 8, 1972. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
