Such retirement allowance <br />shall be payable during the lifetime of such first listed person <br />and shall be equal to the reduced retirement allowance that would <br />have been payable from time to time had the member retired on the <br />date of his death after having elected to have his allowance pay- <br />able under the joint and last survivor option described in sub- <br />section (a) (1) of section 26-86 so that the same amount would be <br />continued after hi~ death to such first listed person~ In any <br />case in which the member is survived by a widowr the retiremen~ <br />allowance payable hereunder shall in no event be less than the <br />altowance~-if any~ that would bare been payable under the pro- <br />visions of subsection (b) above if the member had not satisfied <br />the age or service requirements of this subsection. <br /> <br />Section 26-85. Death benefits after retirement or disability. <br /> <br /> (a) Should a member who retired prior to July i~ 1967, <br />die at any time after retirement but before receiving total retire- <br />ment allowances provided for in this chapter at least equal to his <br />accumulated contributions as of his date of retirement, the differ- <br />ence between such accumulated contributions and such total allow- <br />ances shall then be payable in a lump sum in accordance with section <br />26-87 unless the reti~emcnt altowanc~ is then beL~g paid in accord- <br />ance with any of the options contained in section 26-86, as in <br />effect at his date of retirement. <br /> <br /> (b) Should a member who had at least one year of credit- <br />able service die after termination of service and before his normal <br />retir~en~ date, after having been continuously disabled from date <br />of termination of service to date of death to such an extent that <br />he would ~ave ~uatified for disability retirement in accordance <br />with section 2~-78 or section 26-80~ without regard to any credit- <br />able service requirements or actual retirement thereunder~ pro- <br />vided tha~ written notification of such disability is given to <br />the board by the member~ his employer or his beneficiary desig- <br />nated as provided in section 26-87 within one year after the <br />member's ~ermination of service, an additional benefit equal to <br />one thousand dollars shall be payable in a lump s~ in accordance <br />with section 26-87. <br /> <br />Section 2~-86. Optional benefits° <br /> <br /> (a) Each member who retires under any of the provisions <br />of this article shall have the right at any time, not subsequent to <br />the later of the effective date of the member's retirement or the <br />date of the written notification to the board of the retirement of <br />the member, to elect to have his retirement allowance payable under <br />any one of the options set forth in this section in lieu of the re- <br /> <br /> <br />
