AN ORDINANCE TO ~J4END TPDE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, <br />1973, BY ADDING TO C~APTER 2 THEREOF A NEW ARTICLE ESTABLISHI~G <br />THZ JUVENILE A~.~D DOMESTIC RE~ATIO~S COURT ADVISORY COUNCIL. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> t. That the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />1973, be amended by adding a new article to Chapter 2 thereof, <br />such new article to read as follows: <br /> <br />ARTICLE XVI. JUVENILZ AND DOMESTIC RELicTiONS <br /> COURT ADVISORY COUNCIL <br /> <br />Section 2-330. Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court <br /> Advisory Counczi; establisb~?aent of. <br /> <br /> There is hereby established a council to be kno~ as the <br />Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Advisory Council. Such <br />council shall consist of nine members who shall be appointed by_ <br />City Council. City Council shall consult with the chief judge <br />of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court before making any ap- <br />pointment or reappointment to the Advisory Council. <br /> <br />Section 2-331. Terms of council members; procedures for <br /> appointn~ent; vacancies; subsequent terms. <br /> <br /> Members of the Advisory Council shall be appointed by <br />City Council for terms con~encing on November 1~ 1974. Th_tee <br />members shall be appointed for terms of one year, three members <br />for terms of two years, and three members for terms of three <br />years. Upon the expiration of the original terms~ all subsequent <br />appointments to the Advisory Council shall be for terms of three <br />years. If a vacancy on the council shall occur for any reason, <br />City Council shall, after consultation with the chief judge o~ <br />the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court~ appoint some person <br />to serve for the remainder of the term. City Council may make <br />appointments to the Advisory Council at any time which ~s not <br />more than sixty days prior to the expiration of the term of the <br />office to be filled, or when there is an actual vacancy on such <br />council, or when a mer~er of the council has tendered his written <br />resignation from the council. A suspension arising under the pro- <br />visions of Section 2-333 shall not constitute a vacancy within the <br />meaning of this section. <br /> <br />Section 2-332.
